About the Course

EMDR Through an Anti-Oppression Lens is an advanced two-day training designed to support clinicians in deepening their EMDR practice through liberation-centered, culturally responsive, and decolonizing frameworks. Presented by Jasmine Adams, LCSW, PMH-C, EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDRIA-Approved Trainer and Consultant, this training invites participants to critically examine traditional mental health structures while centering therapy participant autonomy, collective healing, and relational accountability. Through collaborative dialogue, positionality reflections, and expressive arts integration, participants will explore how systemic oppression, intergenerational trauma, and unrecognized forms of trauma shape clinical conceptualization and EMDR treatment planning.

Across both days, clinicians will engage in applied learning that re-examines all eight phases of EMDR Therapy through an anti-oppression lens, with focused practicum experiences in Phases 1 and 2 and advanced discussion of adaptations across Phases 3-8. The training emphasizes flexible pacing, addressing implicitly held trauma in the nervous system, challenging oppressive cognitions, and honoring ancestral and cultural resources within resource work. Participants will leave with practical strategies to dismantle hierarchy in the therapy space, enhance participant empowerment, and implement EMDR interventions that are ethically grounded, accessible, and aligned with liberation-focused mental health practice.

Jasmine Adams

Affiliate Instructor

Jasmine Adams, LCSW, PMH-C (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Long Beach, California. She has provided clinical services since 2004 across diverse settings, including outpatient mental health clinics, wraparound programs, and substance use treatment facilities. Jasmine has maintained a private practice since 2014 and currently serves as an EMDRIA-approved EMDR therapist, consultant, and trainer. Jasmine’s clinical approach is grounded in an anti-oppression and liberation-centered framework that prioritizes therapy participant autonomy and collaboration. Her case conceptualization emphasizes supporting participants in remaining in the “driver’s seat” of their healing journeys while actively challenging traditional hierarchical dynamics within therapeutic spaces. She believes that participants are the experts on their own lived experiences and internal systems. Through this lens, Jasmine integrates strengths-based and empowerment-focused strategies that foster self-understanding, agency, and sustainable mental health practices. She has extensive experience supporting individuals navigating trauma, systemic oppression, and internalized negative self-narratives. Jasmine holds a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C), with specialized expertise in pregnancy loss, traumatic pregnancy, and birthing experiences. She also holds advanced training in the treatment of dissociation and parts work. Her additional areas of clinical focus include oppression-based trauma, complex trauma, attachment/developmental trauma, adoption trauma, grief and loss, parts-informed approaches, and the psychological impact of chronic health conditions and disability advocacy. Through her development as an EMDR therapist, Jasmine has cultivated a deeply integrative clinical style, and as a trainer and consultant, she supports clinicians in thoughtfully adapting the EMDR model in ways that are culturally responsive, ethically grounded, and clinically attuned. Jasmine is particularly passionate about creating affirming therapeutic and learning spaces for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ communities, individuals with visible and invisible disabilities, and those holding other intentionally marginalized intersectional identities. She is committed to actively decolonizing mental health practices that have historically caused harm and to fostering collaborative environments that support healing from both individual and collective experiences of oppression.
