About the Course

There are many ethical considerations that are unique to EMDR therapists.  Because of the nature of this clinical work, adhering to a specific code of ethics and the provision of competent care when implementing EMDR therapy with special populations is paramount.  This training will explore issues relevant to key ethical standards, such as competency, informed consent, boundaries, and the use of technology in therapy. 


Partial EMDR Therapy Training is required for completion of this training.



This course meets the requirements for 3 Continuing Education credit hours by the CE approval bodies listed below:

The Institute for Creative Mindfulness is an approved provider of continuing education in EMDR Therapy by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Course Approval: #10002-DL61.

The Institute for Creative Mindfulness is an approved provider of continuing education by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board (OCSWMFT) for counselors, social workers, and marriage/family therapists. Approval: #RCS091306 (3 ethics CEs).

As of April 26, 2023, The Institute for Creative Mindfulness is no longer approved to sponsor HOMESTUDY continuing education for psychologists. 

This is a hybrid, self-paced distance learning course, comprised of reading material and video content. This is an intermediate level course. Completion of all modules, a course evaluation, and post-test is required to receive CE Certificate. Course evaluations are administered after completing all course modules. The post-test is comprised of true/false and multiple choice questions and requires a passing mark of 75%, and is administered after completion of the course evaluation. Upon passing the post-test, participants are able to download their CE certificates.

Objectives

  1.  To define competency as an EMDR therapist and identify strategies for maintaining competency within the AIP model and 8 phases of EMDR therapy.
  2.  To discuss the ethics surrounding informed consent as an EMDR therapist and evaluate the unique issues that may present within the AIP model and 8 phases of EMDR therapy.
  3. To identify issues surrounding boundaries as an EMDR therapist and to identify methods to address boundary issues that may come up within EMDR therapy.
  4. To assess the use of technology in the 8 phases of EMDR therapy and how best to utilize it within AIP model.

Suzanne Rutti

Suzi Rutti, MSW, LISW-S owns and operates the private practice group Rutti Counseling & Consultation, LLC in Columbus, Ohio. She is a co-owner of Trauma and Wellness Institute, LLC and the Central Ohio EMDR Connection, LLC. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan with a concentration in Interpersonal Practice and Mental Health. She is a Clinical Social Worker that works with children, adolescents and adults of all ages, and does not have a minimum age requirement. She specializes in the treatment of complex PTSD, dissociation/dissociative disorders, preverbal trauma, sexual violence, childhood abuse, traumatic birth experience, intimate partner violence, and other adverse life experiences. Suzi primarily practices using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and also integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), play therapy, and mindfulness-based practices into her work. Suzi is an affiliate faculty member with The Institute for Creative Mindfulness and provides EMDR therapy foundational training and Advanced Training topics. She provides clinical supervision and EMDR therapy consultation as an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant to clinicians across the nation. Suzi believes in the importance of making high quality trauma treatment accessible to all communities, and has presented to numerous local and national audiences on a variety of topics relevant to the impact of trauma and how best to support survivors.
