About the Course

This presentation will share strategies for adapting EMDR Therapy Standard Protocol for use with children who have experienced adverse life experiences.  Adaptations to the 8-Phase Standard Protocol include completing comprehensive history taking, teaching specific preparation strategies, and integrating creative, child-focused interventions to implement during desensitization through re-evaluation phases. Specific strategies will include: psychoeducation about trauma response and EMDR therapy, preparation skills, attachment exercises, and art and play-based interventions. Using the tenets of the Adaptive Information Processing model, this workshop will explore strategies to identify and resolve unprocessed information that is dysfunctionally stored as a result of trauma.

This course is geared toward participants who are partially or fully trained in EMDR therapy that are currently working with children, or would like to work with children in the future. Clinicians that work with adult clients and use parts work will also benefit from this training, and modifications that can be used for working with younger parts of self.
